🖋️ Whistler Cartoonist Society
Est. over beers. Still running on beers.
Almost 30 years ago, the Whistler Cartoonist Society was born over a couple of cold ones—and in that time, it has proudly accomplished almost nothing.
Founding members Raeside and Rodgers have kept the bar low with a legacy of inappropriate doodles, questionable humor, and solid artistic mediocrity.
What WCS lacks in prestige, it makes up for in laughs, mild profanity, and cartoon chaos.
We’re the exclusive producers of official WCS gear—shirts, mugs, magnets, and cards featuring the best (and worst) of their work.
🎨 Take home a piece of proudly lame art today.
🖋️ The Whistler Cartoonist Society
Canada’s least prestigious art collective.
Founded nearly 30 years ago in Whistler, the WCS began the way all serious institutions do—with a couple of beers and absolutely no plan. Cartoonists Raeside and Rodgers, fueled by sarcasm and sketchpads, created a two-man society dedicated to drawing bad art and making each other laugh. Miraculously, the WCS has endured… mostly because no one ever officially disbanded it.
What has the WCS accomplished?
Very little. And proudly so. There are no awards, no gallery shows, and certainly no mission statement. Just decades of questionable cartoons, alpine nonsense, and a deep commitment to not taking things too seriously.
Who are the cartoonists?
Raeside, a former longtime Whistler local, is one of Canada’s top editorial cartoonists. In addition to his decades of newspaper work, he also draws The Other Coast comic strip, which appears in hundreds of publications around the world. He’s the author of twenty books—and somehow still finds time to dodge emails.
Rodgers is an award-winning editorial cartoonist whose work has appeared in newspapers, magazines, greeting cards, and the occasional bathroom wall. A true Whistler local, he brings a lifelong love of sketching, sarcasm, and snow to everything he does (sometimes all at once).
Together, they uphold the WCS motto:
“Draw something dumb. Then go skiing.”
